PRESS RELEASE:

Wheyward Spirit Awarded Gold Medal in
San Francisco World Spirits Competition
Farm to Flask Whey-Based Spirit Among Top Winners in SFWSC

Portland, OR., April 12, 2022-  Wheyward Spirit, the first of its kind of distilled specialty spirit bringing sustainably sourced, upcycled whey from domestic diaries into the alcohol industry, announced that it was awarded a gold medal in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC).
Wheyward Spirit is a clear, distilled specialty spirit (80 proof), developed to be sipped straight or used in place of standard base spirit for a bespoke twist to classic cocktails, that is versatile and sippable. Founder and CEO Emily Darchuk spent over a year in development as she wanted to maintain the natural characteristics of whey throughout the distillation process. The flavor profile is delicate yet complex and has oaky hints of vanilla cream and warm spice notes, rounded with a subtle pear aroma, followed by a velvety smooth finish. The spirit has no additives or flavorings and is gluten, grain, and lactose-free.
San Francisco World Spirits Competition is the largest spirit competition in the world. Judges of this competition include award-winning bartender Jeffery Morganthaler and a variety of mixologists, beverage buyers, and consultants such as Craig Schoettler, Chris Adams, Mark Bowery, and Stephen Beal.
A Gold medal is awarded to exceptional spirits that are near the pinnacle of achievement and set the standard for their categories.
“I am honored that Wheyward Spirit has been awarded a Gold in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition,” said Founder and CEO Emily Darchuk. “This award is a testament to our beautiful handcrafted spirit, and I am excited to push our mission forward of doing things differently for the right reasons by sharing a spirit where you can clearly taste a difference and make a difference.”
